It's a motorcycle gathering up in Anacortes not as big as Sturgis by far, but it has grown from year to year. Yesterday there were tons of bikes and lots of street closures in preparation for today's events.
Oyster Run is mostly just vendors selling their wares, people packed in restaurants, lots of food, drink and party, but mostly people checking out each others bikes. Oh yes the bikes, and lots of them. They line both sides of the street and center line of Commercial ave. Quite a spectacular site.
I think last year there was something like 30,000 people in attendance. It's kind of fun to attend every couple of years... but since it was a gorgeous day yesterday we decided to go to look around the town, and check out the scenery before all the rush.
There were tons of bikes, and lots of street closure signs in preparation of today's events.
Here are some pictures of Oyster run we attended in 2008, for which the weather was gorgeous!
The Motorcycle stunt guys are the Seattle Cossacks, I would go again just to see them perform... outstandingly skilled at what they do! All I have to say about them is WOW!
This picture was only a teenie tiny portion of commercial street in Anacortes.... you gotta be there to get the full effect, but more bikes than I have EVER seen in one place for sure.
Bikes are on both sides of the street, and .... both sides of the center line, so four row of bikes parked, just can't be captured in a photo!
Since we were there the day before all this happens, we decided to go to Washington park, just past the ferry dock in Anacortes. I had never been there, but what a beautiful park that is. We got off our bikes at a wide spot in the drive that looked out over the Puget Sound, I think at the San Juan islands and beyond. Absolutely breathtaking.
The ride home was windy as heck ... strong sidewind is my least favorite thing to ride in. I would rather ride 100 miles in the pouring down rain before I'd choose to ride in strong wind... but somehow my bike just keeps going down the road.
I didn't get ANY soap made yesterday... but it's a new day, and its raining so I think I'll manage to make some today.
